Blue Hole at a glance
Dahab’s most famous and notorious dive site is the Blue Hole. It is the northernmost dive site accessible by jeep or pickup truck.
The Blue Hole is a large, oval, dark-blue hole in the reef top. It has a diameter of about 35 meters and drops to a depth of over 100 meters. The outer wall of the Blue Hole features beautiful coral growth, in stark contrast to the sparsely vegetated inner wall.
At this point, the deep trench runs directly along the shoreline. The steep wall is breathtaking. You gaze into a seemingly endless deep blue, and the steep wall is covered with a multitude of corals.
This site offers at least three different ways to dive it:
When entering the Blue Hole, you cross the reef top via a saddle at a depth of 6 meters. You can then dive the steep wall on either the left or right side. Both sides feature beautiful coral growth and the deep blue. A little further north is the Bells entry point. After a short climb past a boulder, you reach a notch in the shore. If you descend at this point, a U-shaped shaft opens up; open on one side, this cascade drops vertically to a depth of 27 meters. The descent is a breathtaking experience and can be addictive. At the end of the cascade, which narrows into a tube over the last few meters, make sure your BCD is sufficiently inflated, as the steep wall drops off at this point to an unfathomable depth (approx. 800 m). Follow the steep wall along the right-hand side heading south. You can enjoy the overhangs and beautiful formations as you ascend from the depths. After about 15 minutes, you should have reached a depth of 12 m at the latest. This is because, after 20 minutes at the latest, the saddle of the Blue Hole emerges, which is clearly visible from this depth.
The saddle of the Blue Hole lies at a depth of approximately 6 m and enchants divers with its vibrant colors. The Blue Hole has two to three exit points. The exits have distinctive notches and are therefore impossible to miss; the third option is the floating dock.
