The "Mountain" of Scilla

This dive site is the hallmark of the seabed off Scilla. There, a rockfall consisting of large boulders meets the rocky-sandy seabed at a depth of about 20–25 meters. The seabed drops rapidly to 35 meters, where an underwater reef begins, from which rises a feature that, due to its size and shape, is known to everyone as “the Mountain.” A vertical rock spire approximately 20 meters high that can be explored in a clockwise direction.

This dive site offers characteristics unique to the Mediterranean and such a colorful benthic ecosystem that it stands up to comparison with any other. Here you’ll find vast quantities of unique and colorful corals, as well as colonies of invertebrates that paint the seafloor in such vivid hues that it rivals the seascapes of the tropics. On the plateau in front of the mountain, enormous, centuries-old sea anemones display their brilliant white tentacles with their luminescent tips. Of course, you’ll also find fish species such as scorpionfish, monkfish, amberjack, and moray eels, to name just a few.
