Maamigili Beyru - Ari Atoll

The dive site

Maamigili Beyru - Ari Atoll at a glance

Maamigili Beyru is the longest reef in Ari Atoll; it stretches approximately 15 km along the southwestern outer edge of the atoll. Here, the reef drops to a depth of about 10 to 15 meters, transitions into a more or less narrow hard coral plateau, and then plunges to great depths. Here on this plateau and along the drop-off, you have a very good chance of encountering the world’s largest fish—whale sharks—especially between January and April. The boat crew keeps an eye out for them, and then you can either snorkel or dive with the whale sharks. Sometimes you’ll have several of these giants swimming right around you—an unforgettable experience!
