Merlo Reef, Sudan

The dive site

Merlo Reef at a glance

The Merlo Reef, which rises up from the depths, is located south of Angarosh. To the east lies a plateau ranging from 23 to 45 meters deep with small “Habilli” (which means “unformed reef” in fishermen’s slang).

The morning dive takes us first out into the open water, where we keep an eye out for sharks. Then we return to the Habilli, where there are many beautiful soft corals and coral fish to discover.

In the afternoon, we’ll dive along the southwest wall through the canyons and under overhangs.

With a bit of luck, even in March—which is the best time to observe grouper mating—you can spot them here.
