Rosalie Moller

The “Rosalie Moller” is believed to be the sister ship of the “Thistlegorm,” though at 110 meters, it is significantly shorter than the “Thistlegorm.” It was sunk two days after the “Thistlegorm.” For divers, this wreck is incredibly exciting because it is very well-preserved and is home to an incredible variety of schooling fish, including mackerel and tuna. It always seems eerie and ghostly because the visibility—often slightly greenish and murky—reveals a shadowy, massive ship resting on its keel. One mast remains; the foremast with its crow’s nest is famous, though the funnel is no longer standing.

For me, the Rosalie Moller is one of the most beautiful wrecks in the Red Sea.

All cargo hatches are freely accessible and offer a view of the Welsh coal it was carrying. The torpedo strike caused hardly any damage, and so the majesty of this British ship is still preserved in the depths. The upper deck lies at approximately 30 meters, the stern at 44 meters, and the bow at approximately 50 meters. The engine room can be explored by experienced and properly trained divers; for example, you can even still find the tools at the workbench. Caution is advised here due to the narrow passageways. The Rosalie is rarely visited by safari boats; she lies too deep, and visibility and sea conditions are often too challenging. But that’s exactly why she holds such incomparable charm for me and ranks among the most spectacular wrecks of all.
