Seahorse Trench

The dive site

Seahorse Trench at a glance

This dive site is very interesting because, for once, the sandy seabed isn’t boring. Encounters with seahorses native to Italy are a daily occurrence here. You’ll also often come across common octopuses and long-armed octopuses in their caves. You can marvel at fascinating flying fish, large weever fish, numerous red mullets, well-camouflaged wide-eyed flounders, thresher rays, and red scorpionfish. Depending on the season, you may come across sea hares, small barracudas, or large lung jellyfish. The seafloor is home to anemones, cylinder anemones, nudibranchs, and starfish, including the large ice starfish. With a little luck, it’s possible to encounter and photograph pelagic species such as the sunfish or the eagle ray.
