SS Turkia

The steam cargo ship SS Turkia was built in Hull, England, under the name LIVORNO. After its launch in 1910, the SS Livorno was used in its first year as a merchant ship between Hull, London, and the Adriatic Sea.  From the start of World War I, the ship was used for trade between Liverpool and St. Petersburg and Riga. After six voyages, the SS Turkia sank in the Gulf of Suez in 1941. Today, the wreck lies at a depth of 10–25 meters on a sandy bottom and is beautifully overgrown with soft corals. Swarms of glassfish, dusky sculpin, and barracuda, as well as scorpionfish, lionfish, and thousands of sky-blue fusiliers call the wreck home.
