Abu Nuhas / Chrisula K. at a glance

Abu Nuhas is a well-known reef in the Red Sea that offers divers several rewarding dives. In addition to the wreck of the “Carnatic,” the “Chrisula K.” is also located here.

The Arabic word “Nuhas” translates to “copper” or “bronze,” making Abu Nuhas the “Father of Copper.” Copper plates can still be seen on the reef top at Abu Nuhas today; they are likely remnants of the cargo from one of the wrecks at Abu Nuhas.

The “Chrisula K.” is also known to divers as the “Abu Nuhas Tile Freighter.” This name comes from the cargo that still remains on board. Large tiles are scattered throughout the wreck, and on some of them, the inscription “Made in Italy” is still clearly visible.
