Abu Nuhas / Kimon M. at a glance
The Kimon M is one of a total of four wreck dive sites on the Abu Nuhas reef. For wreck divers, the reef is therefore a little paradise.
The Arabic word “Nuhas” translates to “copper” or “bronze,” making Abu Nuhas the “Father of Copper.” Copper plates can still be seen on the reef top at Abu Nuhas today; they are likely remnants of the cargo from one of the wrecks at Abu Nuhas.
The wreck of the “Kimon M” now lies completely on its starboard side. No ship, whether above or below water, is built to withstand the compressive forces of such a position over many years. The wreck of the “Kimon M” is disintegrating and should only be dived with the utmost caution.
